Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you celebrate communion every week?
Yes. We believe that being invited to participate in weekly communion is a significant practice to have at the center of worship each week.
-
Are the two worship services exactly the same?
The 8 am service meets in the lounge area, where most people sit around tables and sip coffee. The primary instrument used is piano. The order of worship is slightly pared down.
The 10 am service meets in the sanctuary, with a more formal pew setting. The primary instrument used is the organ, yet piano/guitar are added frequently.
-
How are children engaged on Sunday mornings?
Children of all ages stay and fully participate in worship. We provided activities to help engage children, like bulletins and worship-focused activity bags. During the 10 am service, children are invited forward to sign & sing a prayer for illumination and engage with a short message. A staffed nursery is provided for ages 5 & under.

What does Faith Formation look like at Second?
Faith formation is an important part of our life at Second. Specific programming for ages 3-adults is available after the 10 am service on Sunday mornings (September-March) for about 45 minutes. During the week, there are a couple of opportunities for youth & adults to spend time in the Word and pray together.
-
How do you communicate with members?
We primarily use email and the weekly Spire (newsletter tucked in the bulletin) for our main forms of communication. A weekly Friday email is composed of a pastoral thought and information for the week ahead. A monthly Leadership Notes is sent to Active members with financial updates and thoughts from the consistory.
-
Do you have volunteer service opportunities?
Yes! There are lots of ways you can serve, within the church walls and beyond in our local community. Programs like the Bridge Cooking Class and Feeding Our Neighbors are food-focused outreach programs.
-
Can I connect to the wifi?
Definitely! Look for a posted half sheet of paper in the narthex or Gathering Place.
